Page 1 of 2 At the risk of repeating what we have said on another page of this site, what kind of structure does your web site hosting company have your server housed in? Is the server building part of a warehouse complex, or a shopping mall? Is it in an old building, or perhaps a fire trap with substandard wireing, or maybe someone's apartment? Is there any fire suppression system in place in the facility? Can the public gain entrance to the server building easily, or physically broken into easily by vandals? Is anyone at the facility in the middle of the night? Your site is a 24 hr. per day operation. Shouldn't your server be physically secure around the clock also? If vandals get into the server building, how will it effect your web server's operation? Will your web server go down, maybe permanently, because of physical sabotage? How about the physical theft of all your data. Your web server should be housed in a structure, that has 24 hr. a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days a year building security. At the very least, shouldn't the facility have a security guard on site around the clock? If your hosting provider hasn't addressed these building security issues, you are not getting a full web site hosting service.
Our servers are housed in an 80,000 sq. ft. data center. The building was designed specifically to be a data center. Security was one of the first factors considered in the design of the data center building and it's layout. The building has only a single customer and employee entrance.
Each individual data center employee must check in with the security guards at the facility entrance, in the front lobby. Security is on site around the clock, along with engineering personnel. This is truly a 24 hr. data operations center.
