in today's business world everyone wants to know your email and web site address. Today a company without a web site is asked, "What Do You MEAN You Don't Have a Website?" Your web site can be a world wide calling card and brochure all rolled up into one, and you don't even have to mail, or hand it out. It's always there, advertising for you while you are doing more productive things. In today's world you must have a web site. Web sites can be created in various ways, depending on what you want it to do. Some sites are simple static pages, created with an HTML editor, uploaded to a server, and updated from time to time. This is the cheapest way to build a website, depending on site size.
Some web site owners may have a site that must be constantly updated. These should be Content Management type sites and of course be database driven because of the easy site content changes. This site is database driven using Content Management with PHP and a mySQL database.
With a Content Management type web site you do not have to learn HTML or any computer languages for that matter. Anyone who can run a standard word processor can change or add content to your web site from any computer using a standard web browser.
Click on the Content Management link on the left for a list of features that are possible when using this type of presentation. From the site front end there is very little apparent difference in web site appearance between a static content page and a database driven page. The main difference is the the ease of operation from the owner's standpoint on the back end.
The same is true with an on-line store. If you have a very few items (usually less than twelve), perhaps you could use static pages for the product display. On the other hand, a database driven store can hold thousands of items and can be easily changed. We have included a sample static ecommerce store, and a sample database driven ecommerce store on this site. These can be found under the E-Commerce link to the left.
